As Gm of the Mavs we accept. We were looking for a big that could do more than just rebound. Boris Diaw is very athletic and is an all around player. He can rebound, pass and shoot..most importantly he spreads the ball and shoots well from 3pt. He is a team leader and he is a good person off the court as well. We also believe he will mesh well with the team and the system we have in place.
We let Samuel Dalembert go and even so he is a great big man, and a center, but we just needed a different stle big man which we found in Boris.
Jason Maxiell is another big man as well that we were not using and he was wanted by the Spurs for needs unknown. He did not fit our system.
We unfortunately are letting Arron Affalo go to make this trade happen. He has proven that he can be a solid starting guard in this league and although we may regret it in future plan, we must let him go at this time to get this trade to pass. Although, we are picking up some very good guards who we feel replace everything he was going to be able to give us this season and next. Those players are Danny Green, Marco Belinelli and Patty Mills . We believe with these guys we not only get quality shooting and scoring and ball movement..we also get a faster and overall more talented squad.
This gives us more for next season as well and we can continue to play like we have without breaking into our main rotation. We wish the Spurs the best and the players we traded to them as well. We welcome our new players and hope they are ready to play, because we play until the playoffs are over and someone wins the championship..and there is no reason in this world with the talent we have that, that should not be us in the end holding up that trophy for our fans to see!!!
